The Lake Oswego library has chosen Elizabeth Rush's nonfiction, Pulitzer-Prize-nominated book, Rising, for its 2020 LO Reads program. A number of books will be available to schools, and we want to suggest and brainstorm ways to incorporate chapters or themes from the book into your classrooms this year. Rush is a journalist specializing in the natural sciences and specifically addresses how climate change and rising waters are impacting people and ecosystems in coastal regions of the United States, including migratory bird patterns in Oregon and beyond. Adaptation and resistance are other themes in her book. Art, history, English, ecology, geo science and environmental classes all have possible applications for the themes in her book. All grade levels welcome.
